My father, Shri Shantilal Shah passed his
matriculation examination from this school in 1914. I think that he
stood first in the school that year and probably was a rank holder in
the university.According to what he told me, both Shri Diwan and Shri
Thakore took special interest in him and tutored him after school hours.
If I am not mistaken, a son of Shri Diwan was his classmate in school.
After school, he went on to Gujerat College,
Elphinstone College (Bombay) and Government Law College. He signed his
articles from a solicitors firm founded in Bombay by Shri Bhaishankar of
Ahmadabad and later became a partner in the same firm.
He also joined in the Freedom Movement and
was jailed several times. He was elected a member of Bombay Legislative
Council when I believe Shri Diwan was a member of the Bombay Assembly.He
later became a minister in the Bombay Government, a mamber of the
Constituent Assembly and a member of the Parliament.
He always remembered with gratitude the
school and his two teachers who moulded his career. He has written some
memories of his school days and later I will send a xerox copy of this
which may be included in any souvenier that may be published.
We, his children and grand-children, will be
happy to associate with the planned celebration in 2007 and it will be
our priviledge to help both financially and otherwise.
